Pitz and Williams Named to Don Hansen All-American Honorable Mention Team
University of Minnesota Duluth football standouts Sam Pitz and Aiden Williams extended their post season award haul again Friday after both were named 2024 Don Hansen NCAA DII Honorable Mention All-Americans.
It's the second-consecutive season PItz, a graduate tight end, has landed the honor after also earning the award in 2023. The product of Appleton, Wis. named a 2024 American Football Coaches Association Division II First Team All-American Wednesday, and was recently named to D2CCA Football's Super Region 4 First Team Offense. Prior to that, Pitz became a four-time NSIC First Team All-Conference selection last month after scoring two TDs and posting 360 receiving yards in 11 games this year. Pitz averaged 10.9 yards a catch and 32.7 yards per game in 2024.
Williams, who hails from Anchorage, Alaska, has already accepted an invitation to the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl. A first-time All-American selection, the sixth-year offensive lineman was recently selected to the D2CCA Football All-Super Region 4 Second Team Offense. Named a NSIC First Team All-Conference honoree in November and was a nominee for the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year, Williams led a line that helped average 213.7 rushing yards a game – second best in the NSIC and the league's best total offense.
The Bulldogs went 7-4 this season and 6-4 in NSIC play. UMD led the NSIC in both scoring offense (34.3 points per game) and total offense (439.0 yards per game) this season.
