UMD Cross Country Gears Up for the NSIC Cross Country Championships
The University of Minnesota Duluth cross country program travels to North Dakota this weekend to take on the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Cross Country Championships.
The 2023 NSIC Cross Country Championships this year will be held at the McDowell Dam in Bismarck, North Dakota. The meet welcomes all teams from the NSIC to compete in two distances, an 8k race for the Men and a 6k race for the Women.
The Bulldogs are looking for a strong performance in this conference head to head as they look to qualify for the NCAA Regional and National competitions on November 4th and 18th. In last year's conference competition, UMD placed fifth overall with an average time of 22:14 in the Men's race and fourth overall with an average time of 22:36 in the Women's race.
Senior Jack Van Kempen leads the charge for the Bulldogs, returning as UMD's top finisher in last year's competition where he finished 12th overall with an average mile time of 5:09.2 and a total time of 25:37.1. Other top placing runners who look to return include fifth year senior Lucas Selman, senior Austin Antony, senior Nick Jacobson, and senior Owen Dickenson.

Senior Maddie Verkerke enters the competition as UMD's top returning runner, placing 10th overall in last year's competition with an average mile time of 5:57.8 and a total time of 22:14.1. Other top performers who look to return this year include senior Franny Seidel, junior Savannah Schley, fifth year senior Anna Palodichuk, and senior Lauryn Renier.
