UMD Cross Country Places 8th and 11th at NCAA Central Region Championships

The University of Minnesota Cross Country program placed 8th in the Men's 10k and 11th in the Women's 6k in today's NCAA Cross Country Central Region Championships in Joplin, MO.

The University of Minnesota Cross Country program placed 8th in the Men's 10k and 11th in the Women's 6k in today's NCAA Cross Country Central Region Championships in Joplin, MO.

The #23 Men's team finished 8th with 206 total points, only eight points behind fellow Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) competitor Augustana. All of UMD's top five runners finished within 60 overall. The Women's team finished 11th with 311 total points, just 16 points behind Minnesota State Mankato. All of their top five runners finished within the top 100 overall.

Senior Jack Van Kempen led the Bulldog pack today, finishing 27th overall with a total time of 31:35.16. Right behind him ran fifth year senior Lucas Selman, finishing 35th overall with a total time of 31:47.64. Seniors Owen Dickenson (43rd - 32:01.92), Austin Antony (50th - 32:07.69), and Nick Jacobson (51st - 32:07.87) rounded out the scoring for the UMD Men.

Senior Lauryn Renier led the Dogs in the Women's race, finishing 46th overall with a total time of 22:12.31. Senior Franny Seidel crossed second for UMD, finishing 51st overall with a total time of 22:16.40. Senior Erika Swanson (53rd - 22:18.61), fifth year senior Anna Palodichuk (78th - 22:42.40), and junior Savannah Schley (83rd - 22:45.18) rounded out the scoring for the UMD Women.

The Bulldogs will wait to see if they have earned any at-large bids to the NCAA National Championships, which will be announced Monday afternoon.
