UMD Cross Country Places 8th and 6th at Roy Griak Invitational
The University of Minnesota Duluth Cross Country programs finished 8th in the Men's Maroon 8k and 6th in the Women's Maroon 6k today at the Roy Griak Invitational in Falcon Heights, MN.
The Griak Invitational welcomes competition from all across the region, offering races for multiple levels from Division 1 to high school. UMD put up some strong team performances today, placing 8th and gathering 259 points overall in the Men's race and placing 6th and gathering 203 points overall in the Women's race.
In the Men's competition, senior and UMD's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Athlete to Watch Jack Van Kempen crossed the finish line first for the Bulldogs. Van Kempen finished 15th overall with a total time of 26:08.3. Senior Lucas Selman would cross the line next, placing 34th overall and finishing with a total time of 26.41.5. Senior Jordan Gruenes (64th - 27:05.5), senior Owen Dickenson (66th - 27:07.3), and senior Austin Antony (103rd - 27:32.0) would round out the scoring spots for UMD.
In the Women's competition, senior Franny Seidel finished first for the Bulldogs. Seidel placed 27th overall with a total time of 23:23.6. Senior and NSIC Athlete to Watch Lauryn Renier would finish close behind, placing 29th overall with a total time of 23:25.2. Junior Savannah Schley (35th - 23:33.1), sophomore Kira Almsberger (56th - 24:00.5), and senior Alaina Steele (61st - 24:06.4) would round the scoring spots for UMD in this race.

UMD Cross Country now looks forward to Romeoville, IL, where they will compete in the Lewis Crossover Invite on Oct. 7.
