UMD Tennis Splits in Opening NSIC Play Against Bemidji State and Crookston
The University of Minnesota Duluth tennis team opened up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play over the weekend earning a 4-3 win against Bemidji State University Sunday morning after suffering a 6-1 setback to the University of Minnesota Crookston Saturday afternoon. Both matches were played in Grand Forks, N.D. at the Choice Fitness complex.
On Sunday against the Beavers, the Bulldogs got singles wins from senior Shay Callaway (6-4, 6-1), senior Abby Johnson (6-4, 7-6), sophomore Lilly Nelson (no score available) and sophomore Brynne Folden (6-4, 7-6).
In doubles, Callaway and Johnson picked up UMD's lone win with a score of 6-2.
On Saturday against the Golden Eagles, sophomore Carly Chaney had the lone singles win for the Bulldogs with a 6-3, 6-0 performance over Ariadna Solis Guals.
UMD is now 1-2 overall on the season and 1-1 in NSIC play. The Bulldogs will hit the court against St. Olaf College next Saturday in Virginia, Minn. in the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball complex at 9:30 a.m.
