Chaney Named a NSIC Player to Watch, Bulldog Tennis Picked to Finish Ninth in Preseason Coaches Poll

University of Minnesota Duluth tennis player Carly Chaney was named a Northern Intercollegiate Sun Conference Player to Watch Wednesday by the league.

A sophomore from Nisswa, Minn., Chaney went 11-4 overall and 7-4 in NSIC singles last year, a win mark that led the Bulldogs last season. As a freshman in 2023, Chaney set a UMD record for most consecutive wins in program history with a whopping 8-straight sets from Feb. 3, 2023 through Feb. 24, 2023, and then ran up a 11- consecutive match wins in a row. In doubles a season ago, Chaney posted a record of 3-9 overall and 3-7 in NSIC doubles.

As a team, UMD was picked to finish ninth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs finished seventh in the conference last season with an overall record of 8-8 and 5-6 in NSIC action.

The Bulldogs will serve up the the 2024 season this Friday when they face Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn. Matches are set to start at 6:00 p.m.
