Dixon Named NSIC Pitcher of the Week
University of Minnesota Duluth senior pitcher Lauren Dixon, was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday after the Bulldogs went 5-0 in the Florida Spring Games that games Dixon pitched in, which included a nine inning upset of No. 5 Grand Valley State University on Saturday.
The Sobieski, Wis. native pitched a total of 32 innings, recording 27 strikeouts over five games. Dixon owned a 0.66 ERA allowing just three earned runs on 15 hits, and in the four innings she pitched against the fifth-ranked Lakers, Dixon allowed just one run on one hit in a 7-4 win, UMD's first over a top-five team this season.
Dixon currently leads the NSIC with 140 strikeouts -- more than double the next closest pitcher. with 39 of them looking strikeouts. Dixon also leads the NSIC with 10 wins.
The Bulldogs will open up NSIC play this weekend when they travel to Winona, Minn. to face Winona State University on Sunday. Game one of the double header gets undeway ay 1:00 p.m.
