Dixon Named to NFCA D2 Pitcher of the Year Watchlist
University of Minnesota Duluth softball senior pitcher Lauren Dixon was named to the 2024 TUCCI/NFCA DII Player & Pitcher of the Year Watchlist Thursday.
One of 16 players to hail from the Central Region and one of seven pitchers, Dixon currently leads the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with 120 strikeouts on 91 innings pitched. The native of Sobieski, Wis.has a record of 11-3 overall and an ERA of 1.46, which includes four shutout games and a 16-strikeout outing against Upper Iowa on Feb. 23.
The watchlist is broken down into the eight NCAA Regions (Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West) with up to 15 student-athletes represented in each region. The list is compiled by the elected members of the NFCA Division II All-American Committee with one head coach representing each of the eight NCAA regions. To be eligible, a student-athlete's head coach must be a member.
Voted on by the NFCA's Division II All-American Committee, the 2024 Tucci/NFCA Player and Pitcher of the Year Award will be announced on May 27 following the conclusion of the NCAA Division II National Championships. All student-athletes are eligible for the end-of-the-season award and do not have to be on this list to be considered.
Dixon and the Bulldogs will face Augustana University on the campus of St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn. on Friday afternoon. The doubleheader, which will take place in the Husky Dome, will get underway with game one at 2:00 p.m., and game two set to start at 4:00 p.m.
