Men’s Track & Field Places 2nd at Wartburg Select, Bulldogs Start Outdoor Season With PRs Aplenty
The University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's track and field team embarked on their 2024 outdoor campaign this weekend, competing in the Wartburg Select. The men's team came home with 137 points and 2nd place out of ten teams. In a larger field of thirteen teams, the women placed fifth, with 80.5 total points.
The men's team had four first place finishes in Baden Bastian reaching 4.06m in pole vault, Brady Johnson running the 200m in 22.10 seconds, Jaden Johnson topping the high jump at 1.95m, and Colton Kostynick throwing 46.29m in discus. Both sophomore Bastian and freshman Brady Johnson had personal bests in their respective events.
Graduate Student Erika Swanson placed first in the 3k steeplechase, with a personal best of 11:39.95.
Combined, both teams had six second place performances. Both the men's and women's 4x100m relays finished second. Megan Gilles, Jacqi Rae, Kate Fitzgerald, and Jordan Grell combined for a 48.45. On the other side, Nicholas Westphal, Cole Brisbois, Brayden Brakke, and Brady Johnson finished with a 42.41.
Junior Savannah Schley ran a 2:15.65 800m and Gilles had a personal best 1:03.65 in the 400m hurdles, both placing second. In the men's shot put, Kostynick had a 15.40m toss. Rounding out the second place finishes, Fifth Year Lucas Selman ran a personal best 9:27.57 in the 3k steeplechase.
