17 Bulldogs Qualify for the 114th Running of the Drake Relays
The University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's track and field teams are sending 17 runners to the Drake Relays. UMD will compete in a total of eight events, with three individual races and five relay teams.
The meet features high school, collegiate and professional athletes and was first held in 1910. World, American, and collegiate records have been set on the famous blue track during the Relays.
The women's team will be represented by ten different runners, including all three individual event participants. Savannah Schley, Megan Gilles and Lauryn Renier will all run in Section 2 of their events. Gilles will open the individual events with the 800m on Thursday, April 25, followed by Gilles in the 400m hurdles and Renier in the 3k steeplechase Friday, April 26.
Gilles and Schley will also represent the Bulldogs in the relay portion. The two are set to team up for the 4x400m relay, along with Kate Fitzgerald and Rachel Boelke on Friday. Earlier that morning, Gilles and Fitzgerald also run the 4x100m with Jacqi Rae and Jordan Grell. Boelke will compete in her second event, the 4x800m, with Rachel Ulrich, Alaina Steele, and Franny Seidel on Thursday.
The men's team has seven runners for two relay races. On Thursday, Nick Jacobson, Nathan Amundson, Jordan Gruenes, and Finn Youberg will team up in the 4x800m. Youberg will be the only men's runner in multiple events, joining Brady Johnson, Alex Croston, and Teddy Rogers, in the 4x400m the next day.
