Bulldog Indoor Track and Field Teams Wrap Up Busy Weekend of Competition at the Jack Johnson Classic
The University of Minnesota Duluth indoor track and field teams wrapped up two days of competition at two sites Saturday with strong showing at the Jack Johnson Classic in the Minnesota Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn.
Saturday the women's track team was led by a trio of first place finishes, which included sophomore Jordan Giles in the 200 meters (26.62), a personal best for junior Megan Grell in the 400 meters with a time of 59.09 and a 800 meter winning run and season best, as well provisional time for junior Savannah Schley of 2:14:30. Junior Madeline Verkerke also finished second in the mile with a season best time of 5:07:28.
On the field Friday, fifth-year senior Jacqi Rae threw a winning pentathlon shot put of 12.77 and scored 3278 in the pentathlon overall which gives her an NCAA Division II provisional mark in the event. Freshman Erin Steinman also placed second in the women's triple jump with a jump of 11.06 meters.
Over on the men's side, sophomore Jaden Johnson high jumped to a personal best and second place overall with a 2.02 meter jump, while Eli Bicek's weight throw of 18:41 was a provisional qualifer for the senior.
Both the men's and women's 4x400 meter relays finished second – the men posted a season best time of 3:26:73 (Ted Rogers, Bereket Loer, Alexander Croston and Brady Johnson), while the women ran also had a season best time of 4:05:92 (Grell, Schley, Rachel Boelke and Kate Fitzgerald).
