PRs Run Plenty for UMD at Ted Nelson Classic
The University of Minnesota Duluth indoor track and field teams had a multitude of athletes compete and find success Saturday in Mankato, Minn. at the Ted Nelson Classic in the Meyers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato.
One of the best performances of the day was fifth-year senior Kayce Gielski's effort in the women's weight throw, a provisional throw of 17.28m. A host of other field athletes placed in the top-two, including graduate Colton Kostynick who placed first in Shot Put with a throw of 16.09m, senior Eli Bicek whose (17.96m) weight throw placed him second and a second place mark by Jacqi Rae in the shot put with a PR throw of 13.35.
On the women's side of the track, senior Franny Seidel finished first in the 1600 meters with a PR time 5:05:49, while senior Alaina Steele ran to a top finish in the 600 meters (1:40:03). Senior Megan Gilles had a second place finish in the 60 meter hurdles and a time of 9.08, and freshman Ellie Hanowski followed in Steel in the 600 meters with a second place time of 1:40:13.
The men had two top-two performances on the track, including wins by freshman Brady Johnson in the 200 meters with a time of 22.68, and a 4:17:84 PR run by Owen Dickenson that landed the senior first place in the 1,600 meters.
