Another Record Falls, PRs Plenty for the Bulldogs in the Mayday Classic Saturday
Another school record fell Saturday and there were plenty of PRs to go around for the University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's indoor track meets at the Maday Classic in the Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Superior in Superior, Wis.
The men's 4x1600 meter relay run by Owen Dickenson, Mikey Kvaal, Nick Jacobson and Jordan Gruenes set a Bulldog program record, as well as a facility record with a time of 17:38:00. That run was under UMD's previous record of 17:48:88 set six years ago on the very same track by Christian Leonard, Luke Lahr, Cody Sedbrook and Josh Peterson.
On the women's side, UMD went 1-2 in the 60 meter hurdles with both winner Chloey Evans (8.15) and runner-up Jacqi Rae (9.39) setting PRs in their race.
Overall, four runners from the women's track team won their events – Rachel Boelke in the 400 meters (1:01.46), Savannah Schley in the 800 meters (2:15:66), Megan Gilles in the 200 meters (26:23) and Julie Rademacher in the 5.000 meters (19:42:74). UMD also won the 4x4 relay with a time of 4:09:74, run by Kate Fitzgerald, Gilles, Aften Robinson and Marybeth Matthews.
In the field events, Erin Steinman won the women's long jump with a jump of 5.01m, while Rae won the shot put with a throw of 12.82.
On the men's track, two runners ran to the top of the podium, including Sam Blomberg in the 60 meter hurdles (8.59) and Nathan Brandt with a time of 2:40:63 in the 1000 meters. The men's 4x4 relay also ran to a first place finish – Ted Rogers, Brady Johnson, Bereket Loer and Alexander Croston ran a season best 3:26:53 in the win.
Eli Bickek added a Bulldog win in the men's weight throw with a throw of 18.03m.
