Steeves and Pionk Both Secure Last NCHC Weekly Awards of the Season
UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.
The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced today two University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey players received conference weekly honors. Sophomore Ben Steeves was named Forward of the Week and freshman Aaron Pionk was named Defenseman of the Week.
Steeves had a four-point weekend in UMD's sweep of St. Cloud State University. He scored two goals on Friday night, including the game winner in overtime. This is the fourth time in the 2023-24 season Steeves has been named FOTW.
Pionk also had a four-point series, with a goal and three assists. His third period goal on Friday and assists on both of Steeves' goals added up for his ninth multi-point game. This is Pionk's first NCHC weekly award.
Steeves, Pionk, and their teammates will kick off the NCHC Quarterfinals at No. 2 Seed University of Denver at 8:07 p.m. CT on Friday, March 15. The best-of-three series will continue at 7:07 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17 if necessary.
