Steeves Named to 2023-24 NCHC All-Conference Second Team
UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.
University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey sophomore Ben Steeves was voted a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference 2023-24 All-Conference Second Team.
This is the first time the forward has made an All-Conference roster, receiving 13 points and two First Team votes. UMD's last player named to an All-Conference team was First Team selection Ryan Fanti (2021-22). The last Second Team member was Noah Cates (2020-21).
In 24 NCHC games, he totaled 19 points, including 14 goals. He tied for second in the conference in game-winning goals (4) and was one of four players to record a hat trick in conference play this season. He earned NCHC Player of the Month in December and was Player of the Week four times.
Through the entire season, Steeves had 24 goals and 10 assists, leading the team in goals and points (34). He was second in the conference in total goals and game-winners (6).
Voting was conducted by the eight head coaches at each institution and eight media members, one covering each member school. Coaches and media voted for six forwards, four defensemen and two goaltenders, awarding first-team votes for six players (three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender) and second-team votes for the other six selections.
Three points were awarded for a first-team vote while one point was awarded for a second-team vote, with the most points at each position earning the honors. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players, making 15 first-place votes the maximum a player can receive.
