UMD CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS EACH HEAD SOUTH FOR WEEKEND ACTION

After schedule changes announced earlier this week, the University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's cross country teams will each head south to seek the opportunity to compete this weekend. The Bulldog men head to Mason City, Iowa for the Trent Smith Invitational, hosted by North Iowa Area Community College on Friday evening, while the women will travel to Romeoville, Illinois for the Lewis University Crossover on Saturday morning.

After schedule changes announced earlier this week, the University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's cross country teams will each head south to seek the opportunity to compete this weekend. The Bulldog men head to Mason City, Iowa for the Trent Smith Invitational, hosted by North Iowa Area Community College on Friday evening, while the women will travel to Romeoville, Illinois for the Lewis University Crossover on Saturday morning.

LAST TIME OUT
Both UMD teams competed and placed eighth in their respective races at the 2019 Griak Invitational. Sophomore Mackenzie Hall led the way for the women at 23:34.1, good for no. 31 overall, one of three Bulldogs to run a sub-24:00 time in the Suzye Wilson Women's Maroon 6K back on Sept. 28. Junior Melissa Drenckhahn finished no. 36 at 23:42.4 while sophomore Morgan Radel rounded out the top three with a time of 23:53.8.

Another sophomore paced the men with Jonathan Tostsenson leading UMD's top five, each crossing the finish within 22 seconds of each other. He finished no. 38 in the Jo Rider Men's Maroon 8K at 26:56.7. Junior Cole Lebourgeouis, no. 42 at 27:00.8, and senior Jake Kluver, no. 44 at 27:01.4, also made the top five for the Bulldogs.

BULLDOGS IN THE POLLS
The Bulldog women's program remains in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Central Region Top 10, ranking eighth for the third consecutive week. Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rivals No. 5 Augustana (S.D.) University, the No. 9 University of Mary, and Minot State University also represent the league in the region's top ten, ranking first, second, and tenth, respectively.

Four teams represent the NSIC on the men's side as well with No. 6 Augustana, the No. 20 University of Sioux Falls, Minnesota State University Moorhead, and UMary landing the second, fourth, fifth, and seventh slots in this week's regional ranks.

SCHEDULE
The men's 8K at the Trent Smith Invitational is set for 5:15 p.m. on Friday night.

The women's 6K at the Lewis Crossover begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.

LOOKING AHEAD
The UMD squads will return to action in two weeks at the NSIC Championships meet in Wayne, Nebraska on Saturday, Oct. 26. The women's race is set for 10 a.m. with the men to follow at 11 a.m.
