Bulldog Baseball Falls in Doubleheader Showdown to CSP

The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team took on another Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader this afternoon, falling to the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears in both games.

Game One: UMD (7) - CSP (12)

The Bulldogs would kick off the scoring this afternoon in the second inning, scoring three runs on a pair of RBI base hits and a pop fly with a throwing error by the CSP right fielder. The Golden Bears would take their chance to respond in the top of the third by scoring two on a bases loaded base hit to cut the lead, but UMD would add another of their own in the bottom of the inning on a two out RBI base hit to keep the CSP offense at bay. A scoreless fourth inning would break up the action before a pair of CSP runs in the top of the fifth would tie up the game 4-4, but yet again UMD would find the answer with a two run home run from Jack Nemetz to hold on to the lead. A five run sixth inning for the Golden Bears would swing the momentum back in their favor, adding three more in the top of the seventh and holding UMD to just one run in the seventh through the end of the game.

Game Two: UMD (7) - CSP (11)

Back to back sacrifice fly balls with runners in scoring position would get CSP on the board first in game two of the afternoon, going up to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. A scoreless second inning and another three runs for the Golden Bears would come before UMD would get the chance to respond, adding their first run in the third inning on a Michael Gabbard RBI base hit. Another scoreless inning in the fourth would break up the action before each team would add two more runs in the fifth, bringing the scoreline to 7-3 in favor of CSP heading into the sixth inning. The Golden Bears would add two more runs to their advantage before the Bulldogs would start to heat up, collecting four runs over the next three innings that would be powered by another two run home run from Nemetz. However, that would be all they would be able to collect before the end of the game.

Looking Ahead

Bulldog baseball will finish out their 2024 regular season with a three game series against the University of Mary Marauders this weekend. The first pitch is currently scheduled for Friday, May 3, at 1:30 PM.
