Puder and Wilkinson Cap Off the 2024 Season in Style, Bulldog Baseball Topples UMary in Senior Day Victory
The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball capped off their 2024 season with a special send off to this year's seniors, defeating the University of Mary Marauders 5-2 to celebrate Bulldog Senior Day and finish off their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) schedule.
Final Score: UMD (5) - MARY (2)
The Bulldogs got to work early on both sides of the field this afternoon, seeing Henry Wilkinson recording strikeouts for the first three outs of the game and Michael Gabbard crossing the dish on a Jack Puder double to open the scoring in the first inning. UMD would continue the momentum in third with Trevor Gustafson knocking in a triple to the right field gap, setting him up to score on another Puder double and bring the Bulldog lead to 2-0.
Another shutout inning from the mound in the fourth and top of the fifth would bring the Bulldogs back to bat, kicking things off with a lead off double from Oran Hinkle. Hinkle would come home to score on Puder's third RBI double of the game and would be followed up by a walk to Troy Lynch. Puder and Lynch would both advance on a Jack Nemetz groundout before an RBI base hit from Kade Peloquin would pile onto the UMD lead. Lynch would come home on a successful double steal situation for the Bulldogs, pushing the score to 5-0 before the end of the fifth.
A perfect three strikeout inning in the seventh would cap off the shutout day for Wilkinson as the Marauders would tally their first runs of the day on a two run homer in the eighth. That would be all MARY would be able to collect though as UMD would lock it down on defense to cap off their senior day and 2024 season with a victory.
