Baseball Makes Pit Stop in Bemidji Against BSU Before Hosting the Wolves
The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team is preparing for another pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matchups this week, heading west to take on the Bemidji State University Beavers before returning home to host the Northern State University Wolves.
The Season So Far
The Bulldogs fell in both games of their home opening doubleheader against Wayne State College at Wade Stadium on Friday before returning to action at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex in Superior, WI, and taking down the Wildcats in game one to end their 10 game losing streak.
Graduate student RHP Brayden Buttweiler continues to be a reliable starting option for the Bulldog pitching staff, picking up his third win of the season this weekend. Buttweiler pitched 6.1 innings in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, holding WSC to just one run through the first five innings and ending the game allowing three runs on six hits.
Sophomore C Michael Gabbard proves time and time again that he is a dual threat at the dish, hitting 8-14 (.571) through all four games this weekend and driving in the fourth run to seal the win in game one on Saturday.
Sophomore 3B Gabe Richardson currently ranks eighth throughout the entire NSIC for his .386 batting average on the season, while junior INF Jack Puder ranks sixth for total home runs (8) and eighth for slugging percentage (.648).
The Bulldogs stay at 13th place in the NSIC standings, just ahead of Bemidji State, as they move into a 9-20 overall record and a 5-15 conference record.
