UMD Athletics DEI Council Kicks Off Fourth Annual Clothing Drive Monday
The University of Minnesota Duluth Athletics Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council, in collaboration with Minnesota Power, will hold its fourth annual Winter Clothing Drive benefiting K-12 youth starting Monday, Nov. 3 at the Bulldog men's and women's exhibition basketball games at Romano Gym on the UMD campus.
The successful community outreach initiative was created in December of 2022 to collect warm clothing donations and help ensure that kids stay comfortable and safe during the cold winter months. To date, the drive has donated over 200 bags of clothes to local Duluth schools over the past three previous campaigns.
The drive will get underway on Nov. 3 and last through Dec. 5 at all home UMD athletic events – 18 events in all. A box will also be available for donation drop offs at all hours outside the UMD Ticket Office in the Sports and Health Center building. Donations can also be dropped off at ALLETE Headquarters (Lake Avenue and Superior Street), Minnesota Power's Herbert Service Center (Arrowhead Road) and The RECC, a Minnesota Power facility located directly behind the Herbert Service Center.
At the conclusion of the drive, collected items will be sorted and delivered to local schools before winter break.
Donations of all children and adult sizes are encouraged and welcome, as long as they are clean and in good condition. These items can include, but are not limited to:
-
Jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, and hoodies, flannel shirts
