UMD Athletics Announces Nine Member 2025 Hall of Fame Class

The University of Minnesota Duluth Athletic Department will induct nine members into hallowed Hall of Fame this September, a group of former Bulldog athletes that drove UMD into to both the national and international stages, respectively.

The Class of 2025 includes Jheri Booker (women's basketball), Bob Corran (athletic director), Kristi (Duncan) Plante (women's basketball/softball), Chad Erickson (men's hockey), Becky Hoffmann (volleyball), Jason Malec, (baseball), Isaac Odim, (football), Liz (Palkie) Kolquist, (Cross Country/Track and Field), and Hanne Sikiö (women's hockey).

Booker, HOFJheri Booker, Women's Basketball (2008-2010)

A two-year transfer from Tennessee State University, Booker was named a 2009-10 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American – one of just five players in program history to earn that accolade since 1988. A 2009-10 Division II Bulletin Second Team All-America selection, Booker was also a 2009-10 Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year and the 2009-10 NSIC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year – first player to earn both in the same season in league history. Named the 2008-09 NSIC Defensive Player of the Year previously, Booker was a two-time First Team All-NSIC selection and named to 2010 NSIC All-Tournament Team. Booker led the NSIC in scoring and steals during her senior campaign in 2009-10 and scored in double figures in all 31 games while leading the Bulldogs to a NCAA Tournament appearance. She was the 17th player in program history at the time to eclipse 1,000 career points.

Bob Corran, Athletic Director (1997-2003)CorranHOF

Under Corran's watch, UMD athletics underwent significant changes, including creation of the Bulldog Club, the development of a strategic plan and reorganization for the department, the addition of women's ice hockey, and vast increases in both overall fundraising and scholarships. UMD collectively won three NCAA national championships, six Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Sports titles and 55 NSIC/Western Collegiate Hockey Association crowns in Corran's tenure. In 2002-03, UMD laid claim to 11 of a possible 13 conference titles, and earned its first NCAA Division II playoff berth in the 70-year history of its football program. Corran hired three coaches – Bob Nielson (football), Shannon Miller (women's hockey) and Scott Sandelin (men's hockey) – who would go on to capture all 10 of the school's team national titles to date.  Another hire – Jim Boos (volleyball)  – was the AVCA National Coach of the Year in 2004 and sports the fifth best career winning percentage in all of DII volleyball (.811).

DuncanHOFKristi (Duncan) Plante, Women's Basketball and Softball (1991-1995)

UMD's Outstanding Female Senior Athlete in 1995, Plante, formally Duncan,  was named to the 1994-95 NSIC All-Conference for basketball. Plante helped captain the basketball team to the NSIC title and UMD's first-ever berth in the 1995 NCAA II North Central playoffs. Plante left UMD third on the all-time list for career assists with 441. On the softball field, Plante was a 1994 NCAA Division II All-Midwest Regional Team for softball, as well as an NSIC All-Conference selection. The 1994 NSIC RBI Champion, Plante helped the Bulldogs to the 1995 NSIC Regular Season title. Plante was a two-year starter in basketball and three-year starter in softball.


Chad Erickson, Men's Hockey (1988-1991)EricksonHOF

Erickson closed out a brilliant sophomore year by securing All-American and All-WCHA First Team honors after the 1989-90 season. A goaltender, Erickson posted a career-high 3.68 goals against average and an .895 saves percentage while starting in 39 games that season – including the opening eight of the year when he helped UMD get off to its best start in program history (8-0-0) and a No. 1 national ranking. Erickson topped the WCHA in saves (913 in 32 league games) as a junior, and got the starting call in 79 of 80 games over his final two seasons, including the last 64 in a row. After exiting the UMD program ranked second in career goals against average (3.80), fourth in both saves (2,760) and saves percentage (.888) and sixth in wins (38) among all-time Bulldogs Erickson signed with the NHL's New Jersey Devils (he was their 7th round pick in the 1988 NHL Draft) a few weeks prior to the start of his senior year. He played in two career games as a Devil (both coming during the 1991-92 season) and spent 10 seasons playing professionally with 12 different franchises in the American Hockey League, the International Hockey League,and the East Coast Hockey League.

HoffmanHHOFBecky Hoffmann, Volleyball (1999-2002)

Hoffmann, holds the distinction of being UMD's first AVCA All-American First Team honoree (2002) and its first four-time All-NSIC Team honoree. The first player in NSIC history to be named that league's Most Valuable Player twice (2001 and 2002), Hoffman received Daktronics All-North Central Region honors on three occasions. Hoffmann exited the Bulldog program as its all-time leader in hitting percentage (3.40), while ranking second in blocks (356), third in kills (1,641). She captained the 2002 Bulldogs to an NSIC title (while going a perfect 18-0 in league play) and its first ever AVCA II No. 1 national ranking (which UMD held for three weeks) as a senior, and secured a spot on the 2002 North Central Regional All-Tournament Team. Hoffmann capped off her collegiate career by being voted UMD's Outstanding Female Athlete for 2002-03.


Jason Malec, Baseball (1982-1984)MalecHOF

A two-time All-NSIC selection in both 1983 and 1984, Malec capped off a sparkling collegiate career in 1984 by leading all NCAA Division II pitchers in strikeouts per nine innings (12.1). Malec compiled a three-year pitching mark of 12-4 in 20 appearances (109 innings) with a school-record 1.39 earned run average and 124 strikeouts. The Proctor, Minn. native went on to pitch for three years in the Minnesota Twins organization -- 1984-85 with Elizabethton (Rookie) and 1986 with Kenosha (A).

OdimHOFIsaac Odim, Football (2008-2010) 

A member of 2008 and 2010 NCAA Division II National Championship teams, Odim was a 2009 Harlon Hill Trophy Award Finalist, and finished fourth in final voting. A 2010 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, Odim was also a 2009 American Football Coaches Association, D2football.com, Daktronics and Dan Hansen Football Gazette First Team All-American. Odim was also a 2010 AP Little College and Daktronics Second Team All-American, as well as a 2008 Dan Hansen Football Gazette Third Team All-American. Named the 2009 NSIC Most Valuable Offensive Player, Odim was a three-time NSIC All-Conference selection and holds the program record for rushing yards in a season (1,808) and a career (4,242), along with rushing TDs in a season (29) and career (72). Odim also holds the program record all-purpose yards in a game (354), a season (2,496) and career (5,593). The 2010 team captain signed a free agent three-year deal undrafted rookie contract with the San Diego Chargers in July of 2011. Odim was also a 2010-11 CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year for football (college division) -- becoming just the second Bulldog athlete in any sport to be so honored – and one of 16 winners of the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award, which includes an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship. A two-time CoSIDA All-Academic All-America First Team selection (2009 and 2010), Odim was also the winner of the inaugural Bob Stein College Scholar-Athlete Award (Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation).

Liz (Palkie) Kolquist, Cross Country and Track and Field  (2006-2009) PalkieHOF

Kolquist was a three-time NCAA Division II Indoor All-American (2x800m, DMR) and two-time NCAA Division II Outdoor All-American in the 800 meters. A seven-time NCAA Division II Championship Qualifier, Kolquist was a 2007 NCAA Division II Cross Country national qualifier (finished 41st). One of the first two UMD women to earn All-America accolades in more than one event at one NCAA Championship (2009-DMR, 800m), Palkie twice-finished as national runner-up in the 800m. The 2009 NSIC Indoor Mile Champion, as well as the 2009 NSIC Outdoor 800m and 1500m Champion, Kolquist was a member of the outdoor 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams that still hold the program record. Kolquist was named UMD's Outstanding Senior Athlete for 2008-09.

SIkioHOFHanne Sikiö , Women's Hockey (1999-2003)

Arguably one of the best women's hockey players ever to hail from Finland, Sikiö was an integral part of the program's historic NCAA title run of three-straight championships in 2001, 2002 and 2003. The Lempäälä, Finland native had eight points, including five goals in six NCAA Frozen Four games -- two of which came in UMD's 2003 title tilt thriller against Harvard in the sold out Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. The two championship game tallies undoubtedly helped secure a 2003 NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament selection for Sikiö. With 220 career points in 123 games, Sikiö still ranks as the program's fourth all-time scorer. Sikiö also ranks third all-time for goals (100), and fifth for assists (120), while her 34 goal season in 2000-01 ranks as the fifth most goals in a single season in program history. An Olympian who helped Finland to a fourth place finish in 2002, Sikiö was a two-time All-WCHA Second Team selection in 1999-00 and 2000-01, as well as a 2001 WCHA All-Academic Team member. Sikiö also played in three IIHF Women's World Championship tournaments, helping Finland capture bronze in both 1999 and 2003. Sikiö was also named to the UMD Women's Hockey 25th Anniversary Team.

The University of Minnesota Duluth Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1991 and enshrined its charter class exactly 61 years to the day after the first Bulldog varsity athletic event took place (a football game at Northland College on Sept. 20, 1930). It now consists of 151 distinguished members, representing 21 sports. The the 2025 UMD Athletic Hall of Fame Class will be inducted on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025 in a ceremony inside Weber Music Hall.
