Bulldogs Place Fourth Overall in NSIC All-Sports Standings During 2023-24 Academic Year
UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.
The 2023-24 Northen Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Sports Standings were released Wednesday, and the University of Minnesota Duluth finished fourth overall. The Bulldog men's teams finished in third, while the women's teams finished in seventh.
Overall, UMD finished just 2.5 points ouf of third place with 122.5 points. Minnesota State University, Mankato amassed 206.5 points to finish 14.5 points ahead of second place Augustana University. Augustana, the Bulldogs, Minnesota State and Winona State remain the only institutions to earn the award in its 25 year history.
The UMD men's third place finished trailed only MSU and Augustana, while the Bulldog women were just 3.6 points behind the University of Sioux Falls in sixth, and four points behind both Concordia St. Paul and WSU, who tied for fourth.
Since 2017-18, the NSIC recognizes an overall champion along with a men's and a women's champion. MSU also earned the men's and women's awards as it scored 89.0 points in men's sports and 117.5 in women's sports. The Mavericks will be presented their awards on Tuesday, July 9 at the NSIC Hall of Fame Banquet in Bloomington, Minnesota.
The NSIC All Sports Award is calculated by awarding the winner of each conference-sponsored championship points totaling the number of teams in that sport plus one. The next place finisher receives points totaling the number of teams less the number of places from first place. Ties in the standings at any level result in the totaling of points and equal distribution.
